Big Sur

Big Sur – Today, yesterday and tomorrow. Should make more sense when you are done with the page.

Here are some shots from inside Riverside Campground where we have usually stayed in our travel trailer, but this year we stayed in a cabin.

The Big Sur river shots:

Just out taking pics of the most beautiful ocean in the world:

Our new tradition when camping (or cabining now) is at least to eat out twice during the trip. The first night for sure, since we had to get there and then setup, so we are a bit worn out form the day. The next time is random and just because. I did not get any photos from our first night, but you can see their web site here –> Redwood Grill. The second night that we went out, we went to the NEPENTHE RESTAURANT. Here are the photos:

As you can see, it is a very picturesque spot to eat dinner, the views are breathtaking, the wine list huge and the dinner is quite nice. I would like to go back without the kids, and make sure I have a drinking partner (and a DD).

One of the spots that I like to visit, but have not had dinner at is Ventana, it is a fairly upscale place. I have only been to where the restaurant & art gallery is. But there is a view there to die for:

And then at the end of the day you feel like taking a short drive, this is what you have to look forward too:

This was our fourth year in a row that we went to the same campground. The first time was Family Reunion outing. The second time was just my family. The third time was my family, my mom and step dad, and some close friends of ours. The fourth time (this time) we started the week with my family and my mom and step dad and then finished up with my two sisters and their family. We have already booked the fifth time and expect my family, my mom and step dad, my younger sister and her family, and then my dad and step mom. This has turned out to be a family tradition that I hope to carry on for many years to come.

Every year it is the same old song…I want to sell everything I own and move there. I will get a job doing anything, I do not care if I have to push a broom, as long as I can get a house with a clear view of the ocean and preferably on the edge of the ocean itself.

Someone once told me that I would get tired of the views of the ocean, obviously they have never stared out into that big blue wonder and realized yet how small we really are. To me the Pacific Ocean can put life into perspective. You can not ever get tired of the emotion and tranquility that is afforded you every time you look to the west.

I hope to one day visit Big Sur and the California coast line by motorcycle. Every time we have been there some sport cruiser pulls in and rents a cabin for the night. In the morning I see them head back out again. What a ride that must be.

I hope this has been a pleasant journey for you, and if you are interested, maybe you should venture your way to the Big Sur coast and stay awhile, or hell…join us one year.

Living for the dream…
